The Internet from its humble beginnings linking the government and colleges together (DARPA Net – military – defense, etc.) has changed dramatically into the machine (porn, e-commerce, social networks, news, politics) it is now. This project is a critique of selfies and the narcissism that comes with them. It is difficult to overlook an element of vanity in the avid taking of selfies everywhere – even cardinals at the canonization of 2 saintly popes were photographed with selfie in Saint Peter’s square. This piece takes the commonplace practice and blows it out of proportion in order to convey a sense of absurdity. The breadth of all these images creates a larger image that reflects our cultural obsession with selfies and the fascination they hold.
